Hole Cane weaving
Hole Cane chair seats are hand woven into the frame of the seat. You can recognize it by the small holes drilled into the seat, and the stitching underneath the chair. Turn the chair upside down and look for stitching.
Flat Reed and Binder Cane
These chairs require weaving of a new seat, with birch wood strips or binder caner . This is most often seen in porch rockers and children's chairs.
Shaker Tape Weaving
Shaker Tape was started by the Shaker Community. It involves the weaving of 1" cotton strips around the frame , of a suitable chair. It can be done in a myriad of colors and patterns. This can be done on a rush seat, chair frame.
Pressed Cane/ Sheet Cane
This type of cane comes in a sheet and is held in by a spline. There will be no holes in frame.
